Sedu Or Chemical?

Sedu Hair Straighteners or Chemical Hair Straightening?

If you have decided to take the plunge and straighten your hair then you will be left with two main choices. Firstly, you could use chemical hair straightening or you could use Sedu hair straighteners – which do you choose?

There are several versions of hair straightener around but we will refer to them as Sedu Straighteners because these have been shown to be the most effective and most efficient hair straighteners that you can buy.

Chemical Hair Straighteners

A chemical hair straightener works by actually changing the internal structure of the hair. The chemical is absorbed into the hair shaft and physically changes the inner cortex of the hair to ‘relax’ or remove the curl. As you can imagine, this is quite an aggressive treatment and if not done correctly can incur a lot of damage to the hair.

There are three main chemicals used in the straightening of hair.
Sodium Hydroxide is the strongest chemical, also often used as a drain cleaner! This chemical is known as a ‘Lye’ relaxer and has a Ph value of between 10 and 14. The higher the Ph value, the faster the chemical will straighten the hair but has an increased risk of hair damage.

The alternative is to use Guanidine Hydroxide. This is what is known as a ‘No Lye’ product and is often touted as being less harmful than the Sodium Hydroxide. This is not entirely true as this product still contains strong chemicals that can be damaging to the scalp.

The use of chemical hair straighteners should be given careful consideration. We would advise that you only undergo a treatment by a qualified professional to ensure your hair does not suffer permanent damage. We would advise against applying hair straightening chemicals in the home. An alternative to using chemical straighteners is to use a ceramic hair straightener like the Sedu hair straighteners.

Sedu Hair Straighteners

Sedu hair straighteners or flat irons, work by applying heat to the hair to provide a temporary method of hair straightening. They can be used in the home and provide a way for you to straighten your hair without all of the worry that chemical straightening can induce. Straightening the hair is a simple process which just involves sliding the hair between two heated ceramic plates. A small amount of heat is applied which causes the hair to temporarily straighten out leaving you with glossy straight hair.

The advantages of this method are ease of use, cost, can be done at home, no worry of chemical damage, can be easily undone.
